Carlos H. Matos (b. 1983, Mexico City) is an artist and architect whose work moves between architecture and sculpture, reimagining materials, histories, and contexts to create an idiosyncratic vocabulary of forms. He co-founded TEZONTLE in 2016, a collaborative project known for its experimental approach to modernist, pre-Hispanic, and primitive references. Matos’ work often explores site-specific contexts, rituals, and imagined landscapes, blurring the line between built space and sculpture. He has exhibited internationally at institutions including SF MoMA, Museo Tamayo, Friedman Benda, and Kasmin Gallery, and his work is part of SF MoMA’s permanent collection.
