Pedro Reyes

Pedro Reyes studied architecture but considers himself a sculptor, although his works integrate elements of theater, psychology and activism. He seeks to develop critical discourses with his audience producing works of art and social spaces. He has founded several spaces for temporary projects and creates works that involve public participation in large but ephemeral projects. His work touches on themes that interact between physical and social spaces, making invisible geometry tangible in our personal relationships. His expansive notion of sculpture examines the cognitive contradictions of modern life, and the possibility of overcoming our particular crises by increasing our degree of individual and collective agency. His recent monograph was published by Harvard University, and he is currently the inaugural Dasha Zhukova Distinguished Visiting Artist at MIT Center for Art, Science and Technology.
