ROOMS Candleholder, 2020
Both born in Tbilisi, Georgia in the spring of 1981, Nata Janberidze and Keti Toloraia met and became friends while studying Interior Design at the Tbilisi Academy of Arts. After graduating in 2003, they started working together on various projects and in 2007, founded Rooms - the Tbilisi based Interior and Product Design studio. Rooms focuses on creating distinct spaces and collectible design pieces. Their designs are characterized by a fondness for storytelling, exploring different directions and a mental acuity. In less than ten years, the studio has caught the attention of the world’s preeminent showrooms such as The Future Perfect (NY, SF, LA), Spazio Rossana Orlandi (Milan), Mint Gallery (London), Garde (Los Angeles), Showroom Kerker (Seoul), Boon (Paris), EGG Collective (NY) and Miart 2018 (Milan). The influence of their Soviet childhood in which they experienced tremendous cultural change and a mix of Asian and European traditions greatly impact Keti & Nata’s ideas and objects. Distinguished by a human - made feel and symbolic shapes, the Duo continues to explore and experiment with unique techniques and materials. By unfolding hidden treasures of their historic roots and following their instincts, Rooms conveys Georgian design language into their work. Pushing the boundaries of limited edition handcrafted furniture design and driven by a love of simplicity, Rooms reflects its attitude of capturing the simple bliss of life.
