Ex Soup Silla sobre ruedas, 2025
Ex Soup is a practice focused on material experimentation, exploring ways to hack into local residual algorithms through the opportunistic use of persistent matter. Their work develops and documents assembly systems with waste to create furniture, devices, and other objects for everyday life. The practice is led by Javier Guzmán and Ulises Morín, whose work is driven by encounters with materials in the city, forming opportunistic supply chains: distributed, non-linear networks of resources that shape and give structure to the work. Assemblies, guided by structural and formal principles rather than specific materials, fracture the routine and rational associations of the everyday environment, opening new possibilities for meaning and use in material realities. In 2023, Ex Soup began as a furniture project supported by the FONCA Jovenes Creadores grant in México. In 2024, they were invited to participate in the group exhibition Chronoplasticity and How to Eat a Rolex at Raven Row gallery in London, creating furniture from debris and materials collected from the streets of East London. That same year, they participated in the Esc Return symposium at Panke Gallery, Berlin. In 2025, Ex Soup presented work in group exhibitions in Mexico City, including Casa Masa at MASA Galería, and SUR SUR at Proyectos NASAL. That year, they also developed their first museography project for Casa Lago UNAM and collaborated on design projects with architectural studios, consistently applying their methodology of collection and assembly.
